This page is written for passengers, families, and caregivers who want to understand exactly how Averion keeps every ride safe. It also forms part of our evidence package for regulatory applications, including our Passenger Transportation Licence (PTL) application in British Columbia.
The Averion Verified Driver Standard
NSC Registration
RequiredAverion Ventures operates as a registered carrier in compliance with the National Safety Code (NSC) standards as adopted under BC's Commercial Transport Act. NSC registration confirms that our operations meet the minimum federal and provincial safety standards for commercial passenger transportation.
Class 4 (Unrestricted) Licence
RequiredEvery driver operating for Averion must hold a valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted driver's licence — the licence category required by the Province of British Columbia for passenger transportation for hire, including taxis, ride-for-hire, and medical transport. A Class 4 licence requires a medical examination and a higher standard of driving assessment than a regular Class 5 licence.
A Class 4 holder has been medically cleared and skill-evaluated to carry passengers for compensation. It is not the default licence — it must be earned and maintained. Every Averion driver licence is verified at onboarding and monitored continuously.
Criminal Record Check (CRC) + Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
Required — BothAll Averion drivers are required to complete both a standard Criminal Record Check (CRC) and an enhanced Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) before being approved on the platform. The VSC is a more comprehensive screening that specifically looks for offences against vulnerable persons — including seniors and individuals with disabilities — and is the standard used for people working with children, elderly, or persons with disabilities in BC.
Reviews convictions and outstanding charges through the RCMP Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS).
Includes a review of pardoned sex offences and is required when working with vulnerable populations. Mandatory for all Averion drivers.
First Aid + Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
RequiredBecause many Averion passengers are seniors or individuals with medical conditions, we require all drivers to hold a valid Standard First Aid + CPR-C certification and a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. This means every driver on our platform is trained to respond appropriately in a medical emergency — including cardiac events, respiratory distress, and fall injuries.
Certifications must remain current. Averion monitors renewal dates and requires drivers to re-certify before expiry.
Senior Safety Certification
Required — Averion ExclusiveEvery Averion driver completes our proprietary Senior Safety Certification — a training program developed specifically for transporting older adults and persons with physical or cognitive challenges. This training goes beyond what any rideshare platform requires.
Drivers who complete this certification earn the Averion Senior Safety Badge, which is visible on their profile. This badge signals to passengers and families that this driver has been specifically trained to care for older adults with empathy and skill.
Vehicle Inspection Program
RequiredAll vehicles operating on the Averion platform undergo a rigorous third-party inspection consistent with BC's provincial vehicle safety inspection standards and NSC Standard 11B preventative maintenance requirements. Vehicles are inspected before onboarding and are subject to ongoing compliance requirements.
- Brakes and brake fluid
- Tires, tread, and pressure
- Lighting and signals
- Seatbelts and restraints
- Windshield and visibility
- Interior cleanliness standards
- Ramp and lift functionality (accessible vehicles)
- Wheelchair tie-down systems
- Climate control operation
- First aid kit on board
Any vehicle that fails inspection or does not meet ongoing standards is immediately suspended from the platform until compliance is restored.
